Isn’t this a “low impact” development?
No.
The term “low impact development” is conspicuous by its absence from the planning application. It was heavily used at the time of the public consultation.
We have been told that the development is landscape-led and will have low visual impact, nestling in the corner of the field and rounding off the settlement boundary.
This is because of excavation metres-deep into the hillside to achieve this low profile.
And because the site sits on a layer of Fullers’ Earth, meaning it is at high risk of landslip, extensive piling work will be required to stabilise the foundations.
All of this results in a huge construction effort, with both short and long-term impacts on the environment.
The developers admit the site was not chosen for ease of building. We think that’s a colossal understatement.
